If you need to enhance existing work skills, or learn new skills in order to perform better on the job, or pass required courses to maintain licensure, Continuing Education non-credit courses are right for you.

Designed primarily for the non-degree seeking student, Continuing Education courses produce and enrich professional growth. These courses are generally short in duration, and upon successful course completion learners are awarded CEUs (continuing education units).

Certification Exams--National Health Career Association (NHA): 

 As an officially designated NHA Certification Exam Center, Eastern proctors NHA Certification exams.
For individuals who have already trained as a healthcare technician, exam sessions are usually held Saturdays [←click here for current exam schedule].
      (Only individuals who have successfully completed a training program recognized by NHA, or who have at least 2 years of documented experience in the area for which they seek certification, are eligible for the exams.)

A 6 Session Workshop on Better Public Speaking 

Here’s what is covered:

  • Speak your own story – Helps you let others know who you are
  • Speak with conviction – Persuading with enthusiasm
  • Speak in an orderly way - Know your subject, your audience, your goal
  • Speak visually - Using gestures and visual imagery                 
  • Speak expressively – Developing better diction and voice quality
  • Exercises - Thinking on your feet
  • Evaluating your skills – Constructive instructor feedback is provided to help you learn.  “A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation from the bricks that others throw at her.” -- Walter Cronkite

The Workshop Leader:
John Etherton is a multi-talented public speaking educator who has achieved the Distinguished Toastmaster accreditation with Toastmasters International. In his professional life, he is the Director of the Center for Safer Solutions, a safety consulting firm in Mathias. He received his doctorate in Industrial Engineering from West Virginia University. A research safety engineer for over 25 years, he has presented the results of his research to audiences nationally and internationally, and has taught graduate-level system safety courses at West Virginia University.
