Office Administrator/Human Resource Representative        

Position: Part- time (22.5 Hours per wk .60) benefits eligible; Pay Grade 16; classified employee; exempt status; 12 month position
Location: Moorefield Campus
Description:

  • Provides administrative, executive support with frequent exposure to confidential issues and utilizing independent judgment and freedom of action
  • Manages the day-to-day operations including work assignments of the President’s Office and Human Resources.   

Responsibilities:

For the President:

  • Manages the daily operations of the President’s office
  • Provides administrative support to the President
  • Serves as a partner to the President in daily operations of the college
  • Manages President’s Travel
  • Prepares departmental purchase requisitions
  • Maintains a state purchasing card account ensuring accurate records are kept and reconciliation reports are completed on a monthly basis
  • Handles complaints and disputes brought to the President's office
  • Coordinates with Financial Aid Director and the President to track tuition waivers & scholarships for presentation to the Board of Governors.

For the President’s Cabinet:

  • Maintains President’s file on matters presented to the Cabinet
  • Gathers information required for the meeting; schedules and coordinates meetings for Cabinet
  • Takes minutes of action items for the Cabinet meetings, and posts meeting agendas to the internal shared file
  • Maintains files and policies for governance structure
  • Serves as a member of the strategic planning team

For the Board of Governors:

  • Serves as support to the Board of Governors with responsibility for the following, with the President’s approval:
    • prepares all meeting agendas, develops, duplicates, and e-mails all Board packets prior to each meeting in consultation with the President
    • prepares annual schedule of Board meetings and activities
  • Plans and manages all aspects of the full Board meetings, its committees, and retreats, initiating follow-up actions required following each meeting
  • Transmits notice of Board actions to appropriate constituencies
  • Prepares official minutes in cooperation with the Board Chair
  • Maintains official permanent meeting records and other documents pertinent to the Board of Governors in both hard copy and electronic form
  • Publishes items to the website; coordinates mailings from the President and Board Chair
  • Assists board members with travel plans, accommodations, and expense reimbursements when necessary
  • Provides individual notification and publication of open meeting agenda to the Board, the campus community, public and the Secretary of State’s Office
  • Prepares and edits correspondence for the President pertaining to the Board of Governors
  • Maintains the Board member contact information and publishes to the website
  • Tracks educational hours for Board Members’ completed educational paperwork submitted to the Chancellor’s office

For Special Events:

  • Plans and coordinates details for a variety of special events and projects, both internal and external, such as conferences, dinners, receptions, luncheons and meetings which may include community leaders, distinguished visitors, faculty, staff, students, administrators, and governmental officials
  • Examples of such events include:
    • Annual Commencement Ceremony
    • WV Community & Technical College System meetingd
    • Local Chambers of Commerce
    • Entrepreneurship outreaches
    • District Consortium
    • Economic Summit partnerships meetings and events
  • Researches and gathers material and data, the majority of which is confidential, and arranges such information as requested 

For Human Resources:

  • Develops and maintains office structure according to the college's policies/procedures, federal and state employment laws
  • Provides assistance to supervisors and employees in writing position information questionnaires that accurately reflect duties and responsibilities of the jobs
  • Responsible for recruitment and advertisements of job vacancies
  • Researches, collects, and compiles data pertaining to Affirmative Action goals
  • Assists in budget process
  • Provides Secretarial support as needed
  • Serves as Title VII coordinator

Requirements:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience
    • Recent and relevant experience required
    • Must handle sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion
    • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with office computer software packages, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel

Developmental Education Coordinator

Position : Full Time 12 Month, Non-Tenure Faculty, Benefits eligible, Grant Funded (Ends 09/30/16)
Location: Moorefield, WV

Responsibilities:

  • Support consortium-level efforts to provide English, reading, math, and digital literacy remediation
  • Follow best practices and support the goal of accelerating student learning and shortening time to a degreeTeach 6-9 credit hours per semester in courses within developmental education
  • Position will be responsible for: recruiting, mentoring, evaluating and scheduling adjunct instructors for developmental education courses
  • Assist with student placement and track into developmental Math and English courses for technical students
  • Evaluate and revise course outlines, content and materials based on assessment in collaboration with full-time Math and English Faculty
  • Overall coordination and development, implementation, and scheduling of the Developmental Education program in the areas of math, reading and English
  • Collect data, analyze and report student performance
  • Maintain competency and currency in the discipline taught as well as in teaching strategies and assessment methods
  • Coordinate and implement appropriate instructional technology software/hardware for course delivery
  • Serve as a member on College committees including the HLC Accreditation and the Developmental Education Implementation Team
  • Perform other professional duties

Qualifications:

  • Education – Master’s Degree in Education or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Math or English.
  • Preferred Experience
    • Experience teaching at college level, and implementing curricula for developmental math and/or English courses
    • Prior experience in instructional technology software/hardware implementation
  • Some travel required throughout the College’s service district.  Responsibilities require availability and willingness to work flexible schedule hours, including day, evenings and weekends (if required). 
  • Willingness/and ability to work with varied levels of abilities and a diverse population.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, plus full and highly competitive benefits package.  Retirement plan options include TIAA-CREF.

Instructional Specialist: Advanced Technologies / Wind Turbine Technology     

Position: 10 Month Instructional Specialist Position 

Location: Moorefield Headquarters, Eastern Complex; Petersburg Technology Training Center;
                    other locations as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Specialist works 37.5 hours per week and is required to serve on and attend college committee meetings and other group functions
  • Develop and present formal education and training classes to students enrolled in wind technician training and related electromechanical classes as needed, including administering examinations and evaluations
  • Classes may be day or evening classes and to include possible weekend instruction
  • Participate with team to identify and specify equipment and materials necessary and appropriate for programs of training and curricular needs
  • Provide input for, and participate in marketing and student recruitment campaigns for the wind technician program and other college programs of instruction, including job and career fairs and visiting district school systems
  • Some travel may be necessary to work with industry, governmental officials and relevant professional associations to complete the development of some program courses and training procedures
  • Schedule and attend Energy/Manufacturing sector meetings with industry partners to determine local industry needs and work with Eastern Workforce Department to set up courses
  • Assist with all aspects of student support services relating to the program, including enrollment, counseling, tutoring, job placement and job retention
  • Assist in developing assessment tools, measures and processes for the program, including for job placement and job retention related to the program, and related to other technical programs as necessary
  • Perform course assessments and present findings to college committees for approval
  • Work with program coordinators to collect academic data related to the programs of instruction, as necessary to comply with requirements of program grants, WV Council for Community and Technical College Education mandates, and college interests
  • Organize classes and course schedules, set up laboratories and demonstrations for students and the public
  • Plan and supervise student trainings and field trips, individually and in groups
  • Trainings will sometimes be outside at great height, so the successful candidate will be capable of lifting 75 pounds and climb/work at heights above the ground in a confined space
  • Initiate motivation practices and appraisals to affirm the student learning process
  • Instruct students in personal and social skills and profession-related behaviors
  • Visit and work with industry employers to secure job and intern opportunities for students
  • Assist Eastern’s grant writer in writing grants to secure funding for the Technician programs
  • Adhere to all applicable safety and other Eastern WVCTC policies
  • All other responsibilities and duties as directed by supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors Degree preferred

Experience:

  • Experience in industrial projects and settings
  • Experience in the wind industry preferred
  • Experience in supervision of programs and/or projects in wind energy technology preferred (or programs in electromechanical technology, advanced manufacturing or energy fields), engineering or other related fields
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Computer skills to level of Excel
  • Familiarity with technical aspects of the Wind Energy Industry and Industrial maintenance curriculum preferred
  • Experience in the development of technology training programs preferred 

Salary level will be commensurate with education and experience. 
Wind Energy/Industrial experience will offset formal education requirements.
Recent employment in the wind industry is a major plus.

Nursing Instructor (immediate need) 

Position:         Nursing, Adjunct Faculty
Location:        Work 2 days per week (Wednesday & Thursday, times vary) in clinical setting and                                         laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform professional supervisory nursing practice in the care of the physically and mentally ill
  • Work involves responsibility for supervising the provision of quality nursing care given at the facility
  • Maintain the quality and adequacy of nursing practice
  • Recognize and assist in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems in an assigned area
  • Position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge to solve nursing problems within established policies and practices
  • Position is reviewed by the supervisor through conferences, reports and observation of results obtained                           

Education Required: 

  • Master’s degree in Nursing; or 
  • Bachelor degree in Nursing and must be admitted into a graduate degree program in nursing within one year of the hire date

Qualifications:

  • Evidence of current experience in nursing practice and education sufficient to demonstrate professional competence
  • Licensed as a registered professional nurse in West Virginia

Evening Administrative Assistant

Position: Part-time 20 hours week (1,000 hours); 4:00pm-9:30pm; pay grade 10, classified employee, non-exempt status
Location: Main Campus Moorefield

This position performs a variety of administrative duties following established departmental policies, procedures, and methods in support of various departments throughout the college as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Greets visitors
  • Provides general information to visitors and students
  • Directs visitors and students to appropriate staff for assistance
  • Answers telephone calls, provides general information to callers and directs them to the appropriate staff for assistance
  • Locks Eastern’s main campus
  • Maintains a supervisory role with students
  • Has knowledge and understanding of Blackboard/WebCT
  • Proctors examinations as necessary
  • Facilitates communications between Eastern headquarters, Discovery Centers, faculty, and students
  • Refers students to tutoring
  • Responds to requests for information
  • Performs evening hours help desk functions.
  • Provides technology support to students and faculty before class startup and during classes as requested
  • Sets up projectors, laptops, trouble shoots and resolve problems with computers and video distance learning equipment
  • Makes video connections when needed
  • Uses web interface to make connections on remote distance learning equipment
  • When needed, trains faculty on the use of video distance learning equipment, e.g. Document cameras, DVD/VCR Players, classroom projectors and operation of projection screens
  • Trouble shoots and resolves printing problems when needed
  • Assists students, faculty and staff with connecting to our public and secure wireless access points
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Education

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate degree preferred or a combination of education and 18 months of work experience

Experience

  • Information technology knowledge preferred but not required
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency with office computer software packages, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and Access
  • Responsibilities require the ability to work well with others in a team environment, including the public

Instructional Specialist – Cosmetology Part-time

Position: Part-time Evenings and Weekend days as needed; (Average of 20-25 hours/week).  Benefits Eligible.
Location:   South Branch Career and Technical Center, Petersburg WV

This position is dependent on securing funding and student enrollment.

Eastern WV Community & Technical College seeks innovative instructors committed to community college students and their success.  The successful applicant will:

  • Utilize various technologies in the classroom and for delivery of instruction
  • Work with the full time Instructional Specialist to design and administer various areas of the program;
  • ave ability to work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff and students as part of an education team
  • Write and update curricula, including course outlines and syllabi, as required by the institution or industry trends.

Requirements: 

Certification - Current West Virginia Cosmetology Instructor Certification required
E
xperience - Five years salon/shop experience or higher education teaching experience required

Expectations:  This instructor position will teach both traditional and non-traditional students, and will have primary responsibilities for teaching and assessing learning; institutional service; advising; and professional development. The college seeks to break the frame that traditionally surrounds instructor assignments, especially since academic needs vary.  Therefore, instructors should expect to integrate with their primary responsibilities some combination of the following:

  • Creating experiential learning opportunities and assessment techniques,  e.g., work-based & service learning; portfolio assessment, including developing and evaluating learning portfolios; etc.
  • Mentoring, students from target groups, new instructors or faculty, adjunct faculty
  • Designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for live and online courses
  • Training & consulting for workforce initiatives. e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.
  • Developing & implementing community education and extended learning programs.
  • Partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community
  • Recruiting and marketing
  • Advising with expanded responsibilities
  • Devising retention strategies  and activities
  • Strengthening relations and collaborative activities with K-12 & baccalaureate-granting colleagues, Tech-Prep, School-to-Work, and 2+2 Programs.
