Eastern’s High School Senior Scholarship Program Awards 7 Potomac Highlands Grads


Seven Potomac Highlands graduating high school seniors won scholarships from Eastern WV Community and Technical College that will cover the school’s tuition costs and most student fees for one year. The recipients include Wardensville’s Shyane Constable, Augusta’s Savannah Jenkins, Parsons’ Andrew Kisamore, Burlington’s Jacob Mellott, Moorefield’s Dillon Ruddle, Petersburg’s Robyn Shirk and Brandywine’s Salena Weese

A Record 121 Graduates Earn 151 Credentials At Eastern’s Commencement


New college graduates heard two classmates and a guest speaker encourage them last week to overcome fear, take advantage of opportunities and continue learning throughout life, as Eastern WV Community and Technical College held its 2014 Commencement ceremonies in Moorefield, May 10.

19 Enter ‘Most Trusted Profession’ At Eastern’s Nurse Pinning Ceremony


“Nurses are repeatedly recognized as the most trusted profession in the United States,” keynote speaker Susan Rogers (RN, MSN, FNP) told nineteen area nurse graduates, as they assembled last month in Moorefield for a pinning ceremony that recognized their successful completion of a two-year associate degree program in nursing.

Art’s Beauty Shines Through Nature’s Gloom At Eastern’s Annual Show


A dreary day of rain did not deter some 50 devotees from dropping by the 2014 Annual Art Show at Eastern WV Community and Technical College, April 25, to discover and drink in the 50 works of art on display. Oil paintings, ink drawings, sketches, collages, sculptures, installations and more draped the College’s resource center from wall to wall, and did not disappoint.

'Open Mic' Poetry Reading In Wardensville May 18


The Lost River Trading Post will host an “Open Mic Poetry Reading” Sunday, May 18th, from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at 295 Main Street, Wardensville. “All Eastern students are invited to attend, as are members of the community,” said Nicole Yurcaba, instructor of English at Eastern WV Community and Technical College and author of Backwoods and Back Words, a new book of poetry.

May 10: Shelter Volunteer Training & Emergency Communication/Intro to Ham Radio From Red Cross


The Red Cross will offer both a Sheltering Training and an Emergency Communication/Intro to Ham Radio Operations workshop, May 10, from 8:00 am - 2:30 pm, at the Moorefield Intermediate School (second drive just past the Moorefield Middle School entrance at Caledonia Heights) in Moorefield, WV. A $5 registration fee includes lunch.

International Honor Society Inducts 15 Eastern Students


The international honor society for two-year colleges inducted fifteen area college students into membership last month, recognizing not only their outstanding academic achievement, but also their “unique and special” qualities of leadership and community service, said Charles ‘Chuck’ Terrell, president of Eastern WV Community and Technical College. Five of the new honorees had earned selection last fall, while Beta Nu Lambda, Eastern’s PTK chapter, named another 10 this spring, as Eastern hosted the official swearing-in ceremony for both semesters March 21, at Moorefield’s South Branch Inn.

Eastern Art Show April 25th Features Art, Literature, Music & Mural


The Eastern Arts Society, a student organization, will present new work by student and staff artists at the third annual Eastern Art Show, Friday, April 25, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Resource Center on the Moorefield campus of Eastern WV Community and Technical College. As is tradition, the show will also feature the release of the Society’s annual edition of Eagles Nest, its literary and photography magazine.

Spring Extravaganza Offers Family Fun, Kids’ Events & Unique Shopping April 26


If you’re looking for family fun, exciting children’s activities and a unique shopping bazaar, it’s all in one place Saturday, April 26, at the third annual Spring Extravaganza in Moorefield. Eastern WV Community and Technical College invites the whole community to drop in — for free admission — from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at its 316 Eastern Drive campus, just off Corridor H/Route 48, two miles east of Moorefield.
