International Honor Society Inducts 14 Eastern Students


The Beta Nu Lambda chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PhTK) welcomed 14 Eastern WV Community and Technical College students into membership during the college’s Founders Day Award and Recognition Ceremony, March 22 at Moorefield’s South Branch Inn.

On a cool, bright, early spring day that promised weeks of sunshine ahead, more than 100 family, friends and college staff packed the conference room in Moorefield’s South Branch Inn last month to celebrate and honor the college accomplishments of area students.

Shell Energy Gives Grant To Eastern For Safety Training


On behalf of Shell Wind Energy, David Myers, the NEDPower operations manager at Mt. Storm, presents a grant of $2-thousand to Charles ‘Skip’ Landes, the Wind Energy Technology Training instructor at Eastern WV Community and Technical College. Eastern will use the funds to provide safety training for program students learning to climb wind turbines.

Eastern Instructor's Poem Honored Among Top 12 At International Festival


A poem that wrests hard-won hope and hints of redemption from the midst of chaos and violence earned a Potomac Highlands college instructor ‘Top 12’ performance honors at the Bridgewater College International Poetry Festival in Virginia last month.

Eastern Grad Earns B.A. From Shepherd After Successful Student Teaching


This past fall, Amy Stankwich student-taught five days a week in Robert Nixon’s fifth grade classroom at Slanesville Elementary in Hampshire County. In December, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, K-6.

Free Ilene Evans Show & Lunch At Eastern Feb. 25 For Black History Month


To celebrate Black History Month, world-renowned actress, musician and story-teller Ilene Evans will bring a free lunch-and-learn return engagement of her one-woman show, General Moses: Stories from the Life of Harriet Tubman to Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College, at 316 Eastern Drive in Moorefield.

75 Eastern Students Earn Fall Semester Academic Honors


Seventy-five students from the Potomac Highlands and the surrounding area earned academic honors at Eastern WV Community and Technical College for fall semester 2014. With a 4.0 cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) while carrying at least 12 credit-hours, twenty-four students received President’s List honors. Fifty-one students made the Dean’s List, by achieving a minimum 3.5 GPA with at least 9 credit-hours.

Eastern Nursing Grad Tours China With Scholars Group


An international scholars’ nursing and healthcare learning tour of China last summer brought new professional insights and cultural discoveries to a Maysville registered nurse who took part. Heather Thorne, who works locally as a registered nurse, visited with medical professionals at Chinese hospitals and universities and observed how nurses in China do their jobs. The tour also let her marvel at famous tourist sites and taste everyday Chinese customs, in dining, shopping and living conditions.

Local Artist Donates Painting Of Mascot To College


Moorefield resident Ryan Zirk, who is quietly building a local reputation as a talented artist, recently donated his painting “Art Matters” to his college. A portrait of an eagle, the painting represents the first ever oil-on-canvas interpretation of Eastern WV Community and Technical College’s new official mascot.
