Eastern Enrollment Climbs Again


After being recognized last year as the 21st fastest-growing community college nationwide, Eastern WV Community and Technical College achieved a record high enrollment again this fall. “Registration for spring semester moves into full throttle January 2, 2014, and will remain open through Friday, January 10,” said Monica Wilson, Eastern’s associate director of admissions.

Eastern Celebrates Appalachian Heritage, Diversity and Resiliency


On October, 31, 2013, Eastern WV Community and Technical College hosted the 15th performance of Revelations, a theatrical presentation about Appalachian resiliency in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people, written and produced by folklorist Carrie Nobel Kline. The play explores what it’s like for LGBT West Virginians growing up and living in Appalachia. Nearly 50 people attended the staged reading, including students and members from the community, and many participated in the thoughtful and insightful open forum discussion following the presentation.

Eastern’s Amanda Sites Is New President Of Statewide Financial Aid Association


A statewide association of financial aid professionals has elected Amanda Sites, director of financial aid at Eastern WV Community and Technical College, as president of the West Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WVASFAA).

Kimbra Chirchirillo Honored As ‘2013 Outstanding Contributor’


State college educators named Eastern WV Community and Technical College’s Kimbra Chirchirillo a ‘2013 Outstanding Contributor to Community College Education’ at an annual conference October 24 in Bridgeport. Honored by the WV Community College Association (WVCCA) for her thoughtful, compassionate and personal involvement with students over many years, Chirchirillo “is the epitome of the ideal staff person in a small college,” noted Eleanor Berg, Eastern’s nursing program director.

Eastern Student President Inspires Participation & Service


Baker, WV’s Chris Windley expects to graduate community college next year with a double major in business and wind energy turbine technology, and purposeful future goals. “I want to go into research and development,” he said, “and get on the ground floor to help with cancer research.”

‘Trunk-N’-Treat’ Oct. 31 At Eastern Offers Fun, Goodies And Prizes


To offer all Potomac Highlands children up to the age of 12 a safe, fun and adventurous event this October 31, students at a Eastern WV Community and Technical College will host ‘Trunk-n’-Treat,’ that evening from 5:30 to 7:30. From the trunks and hatchbacks of their vehicles in the college parking lot, they will hand out goodies, greet the treaters, and enjoy the laughter of children as they skip delightedly from trunk to trunk fishing for treats.

Open Auditions Oct. 16 For Theatrical Reading At Eastern


Open Auditions for a theatrical presentation about Appalachian resiliency are scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 at 5:00 pm in the Resource Center of Eastern WV Community and Technical College’s Moorefield campus.

Information Session For WVU's 'B.A. Pathway' Program Sept. 30 At Eastern


On Monday, September 30, Eastern WV Community and Technical College will host a special Information Session about a new program that allows students to transfer many of their community and technical college credits towards a B.A. degree from West Virginia University.

Eastern Partners With Arts Institute For Course Credit Transfer


Local college students interested in jobs in fashion, cooking and design, now have a new career preparation and learning opportunity available. Eastern WV Community and Technical College is partnering with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to allow large numbers of Eastern courses to transfer as whole credit into four-year programs there.

Beautician Training For Adults Opens In Petersburg


Adults who are interested in becoming licensed hairstylists and beauticians can now get professional training at a nearby learning center.
