‘Trunk-N’-Treat’ Oct. 31 At Eastern Offers Fun, Goodies And Prizes


To offer all Potomac Highlands children up to the age of 12 a safe, fun and adventurous event this October 31, students at a Eastern WV Community and Technical College will host ‘Trunk-n’-Treat,’ that evening from 5:30 to 7:30. From the trunks and hatchbacks of their vehicles in the college parking lot, they will hand out goodies, greet the treaters, and enjoy the laughter of children as they skip delightedly from trunk to trunk fishing for treats.

Open Auditions Oct. 16 For Theatrical Reading At Eastern


Open Auditions for a theatrical presentation about Appalachian resiliency are scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 at 5:00 pm in the Resource Center of Eastern WV Community and Technical College’s Moorefield campus.

On Monday, September 30, Eastern WV Community and Technical College will host a special Information Session about a new program that allows students to transfer many of their community and technical college credits towards a B.A. degree from West Virginia University.

Eastern Partners With Arts Institute For Course Credit Transfer


Local college students interested in jobs in fashion, cooking and design, now have a new career preparation and learning opportunity available. Eastern WV Community and Technical College is partnering with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to allow large numbers of Eastern courses to transfer as whole credit into four-year programs there.

Adults who are interested in becoming licensed hairstylists and beauticians can now get professional training at a nearby learning center.

50 Learners Earn GED From Eastern’s Adult Basic Education


Fifty area students from Grant, Hardy and Pendleton Counties earned their GED high school equivalency diploma this past year, and a formal graduation ceremony this month in Petersburg honored their achievement. Except for six home-schoolers, all of the graduates earned their diplomas through the tri-county Adult Basic Education (A.B.E.) program administered by Eastern WV Community and Technical College, which hosted the event at its Technology Center in the Grant County Industrial Park near the airport.

Hampshire Pair Donates Custom-Carved Medallion To Eastern


The co-owners of a regional machine and tool company, both Hampshire County residents, presented a custom-carved medallion to Eastern WV Community and Technical College for use with its ceremonial mace. College representatives carry the mace — now boasting the medallion with Eastern’s distinctive logo — to symbolize “Scholarship” at the head of Commencement processionals and on other special occasions.

Free Summer Math Bootcamp Boosts College Placement Math Scores


“Bootcamp will run Monday-Friday, July 8 - 19, and Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and 30, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm,” said Vera Shockey, who teaches and coordinates Hardy County Adult Basic Education at Eastern WV Community and Technical College, and serves as Boot Camp ‘Sergeant’. “The classes are free to anyone who wants or needs the review.” For more information, or to register, call Shockey, or Eastern’s Workforce Education department at 304-434-8000, or toll-free: 877-982-2322.

Through June 30: Broadband Survey For 5-County Region


The Region 8 Planning and Development Council is asking everybody within its five-county district to assist in assessing the current use, and planning the future development, of broadband resources in our five-county region. “Broadband is typically defined as a service that enables high-speed Internet access as opposed to low speed services such as dial-up,” according to the Council’s website.
